Position Overview

Job Description Summary

As a Tire & Utility Technician, you will be responsible for learning core elements of fleet maintenance primarily with tires and tire related components on assets, but will include exposure to other fleet assets within the operations. Think with trouble shooting perspective and be effective at communications and focused on working safely and embodying the safety culture and atmosphere

Primary accountability and results for specific functions. List by order or importance. The list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented or changed as necessary.

Tire Related Maintenance Tasks:

  • With over site, conduct asset inspection by item level task

  • Understand all aspects of the tire, air PSI, and related components designed to reduce tire failure such as TMS and tire inflation systems.

  • Successfully inspect all tire positions and correctly identify needs and out of spec items

  • Perform fleet inspections leveraging hand held technology that stores data and tire condition information

  • Ensure all tire procedures are conducted safely and that all safety related warnings are adhered to per CSWG standards and TIA industry recommended practices

Entry level requirements

  • Mechanical aptitude

  • Willingness to grow, learn and advance

  • TIA Industry certification

  • Able to support scrap tire analysis NRT

  • Manufacturer training/ certification (on-going)

Work Aptitude & Technical Abilities:

  • Participate in supporting other technicians to glean skills and expertise

  • Follow ongoing cycle of reading, classroom environment, observe expect executing repair and then demonstrate skill and proficiency for each critical learning by system

  • Communication skills necessary for cross functional interaction and team building and growth


  • Work closely with tenured technician to learn technical aspect of the job

  • Read, study and test modules or chapters of technical materials

  • Successfully certify at test level and demonstrate technical competence


Support shop projects and related tasks to optimize asset uptime and productivity.

Transman familiarity and VMRS understanding. Complete work-orders for thoroughness and detailed history to demonstrate Complaint, Cause and Correction(s).


To perform at a proficient level and be fully qualified, a person would be expected to have:

1 .Education (Minimum Needed): High school education required. Mechanical exposure and/or tire related background.

2 .Experience (Minimum Needed): Base understanding of mechanical principles and aptitude to complete repairs on Heavy Duty equipment with moderate instruction.

3 .Specialized Knowledge Needed For Performance of Job: Vehicle maintenance systems, commercial truck components, driver D.O.T. regulations specific to tire 32nds and out of service criteria.

4 .Special Skills: Pride in high work quality and repairs completed correctly the first time. High attention to detail and accuracy.

5 .Other: If needed an ability to travel 5%-15% to other locations to support company initiatives.

6. Valid Driver's License Required
